Memory prices jump as DRAM and NAND supplies tighten on AI demand
AI مارکیٹ کا خلاصہ
Tight DRAM/NAND supply and accelerating AI-driven demand are pushing memory pricing higher, with forecasts for further PC DRAM increases and reports that DRAM/HBM capacity is largely sold out through 2027 allocations. New High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) standards also signal continued investment in next-generation storage. The setup is supportive for memory producers' margins while raising downstream supply risk, already visible in consumer electronics constraints.

BlockBeats reported on Aug. 4 that the storage market is heating up, with several research firms expecting further price increases for both DRAM and NAND as supply remains tight and AI-driven computing demand stays strong.
SK Hynix and SanDisk have jointly released what they described as the industry's first standard specification for High Bandwidth Flash (HBF), a step aimed at accelerating next-generation storage development.
Pricing indicators are already reflecting the squeeze. The average selling price of South Korea's single-level NAND products rose 35% month over month in July to a record high. TrendForce forecasts that, amid ongoing shortages, the fixed contract price for PC DRAM could climb 15% to 20% quarter over quarter in Q3 2026.
On the supply side, reports said the world's three largest memory makers have completed negotiations for their full-year 2027 capacity allocations, with much of DRAM and HBM capacity effectively sold out. In the broader upstream chain, Samsung Electronics' wafer foundry business is expected to run at 100% utilization this year.
Counterpoint data shows Samsung is widening its DRAM market-share lead, heightening competitive pressure between Micron and SK Hynix.
End-market supply is also being affected. Reports said the MacBook Air is facing constraints tied to memory shortages.
Separately, South Korean AI-chip unicorn DeepX is said to have seen its valuation quadruple to KRW 3.14 trillion, underscoring continued momentum across the AI chip and memory supply chain.
