Nimiq has a singular goal: to make blockchain usage mainstream. It plans to create a payment system that is much more accessible to up-and-coming players in the industry than current options.

JavaScript ES6 was used to create Nimiq, making it possible to run entirely in an internet browser without syncing to a node. Tokens issued by NIM can be held and traded by users using only a web browser or mobile device. Everything about this system is user-friendly, so one doesn't need prior knowledge of crypto, blockchain, or P2P networks to get started using them.

Furthermore, you can mine NIM tokens with a simple web browser. The entire system is built around not using specialized software, which means it's lightweight and can work on any computer or mobile device.

Nimiq Team and Founders

Since mainnet launched, the team has focused on system development, community building, and marketing. In December 2019, the team terminated the NET smart contract, with over 80 % of NIM tokens activated.

Philipp von Styp-Rekowsky and Robin Linus co-founded Nimiq. Currently, the website lists 18 additional team members. In January 2019, Linus returned following a six-month sabbatical and announced his issues with the project on Reddit.
