What Is Maple Finance (SYRUP) and How Does It Work?

Maple Finance (SYRUP) is a decentralized credit platform that brings institutional lending on-chain. It gives credit-worthy borrowers access to undercollateralized loans while allowing lenders to earn yield from real institutional debt. SYRUP is the upgraded native token of the Maple ecosystem, replacing MPL as part of Maple’s transition into a more scalable, capital-efficient credit infrastructure. The platform focuses on transparent credit underwriting, on-chain reporting, and building a DeFi-native capital market for institutions, market makers, and Web3 enterprises.

Maple works through specialized lending pools known as liquidity pools, each operated by professional credit managers who assess borrower risk, set lending terms, and manage performance. Lenders deposit capital into these pools to earn interest, while borrowers receive loans backed by creditworthiness, business performance, or structured collateral rather than traditional overcollateralization. This design makes Maple an attractive alternative to traditional DeFi lending protocols that rely purely on crypto collateral.

The SYRUP token powers Maple’s governance, staking, and reward mechanisms. Holders can participate in protocol decisions, stake SYRUP to secure the network, and earn a share of platform revenue generated through loan originations and fees. By combining real-world credit markets with on-chain liquidity, Maple Finance positions itself as a leading institutional lending layer in decentralized finance.

When Did Maple Finance Launch?

Maple Finance launched in May 2021 as one of the first institutional-grade credit markets built on Ethereum. It was founded by Sidney Powell and Joe Flanagan, who aimed to bridge traditional corporate lending with decentralized finance by enabling undercollateralized loans on-chain.

Since launch, Maple has expanded beyond Ethereum, introduced permissioned credit pools, onboarded major market makers and crypto institutions as borrowers, and upgraded its token from MPL to SYRUP as part of a broader 2024–2025 protocol evolution toward scalable on-chain credit infrastructure.

Maple Finance Roadmap Highlights

• 2021: Mainnet launch on Ethereum; first institutional lending pools go live.

• 2022: Expansion to Solana (later deprecated) and launch of permissioned pools for regulated credit.

• 2023: Introduction of improved risk frameworks and enhanced pool management tools for credit managers.

• 2024: Migration from MPL to SYRUP, rollout of syrupUSD yield products, and refined governance system.

• 2025: Expansion of on-chain credit markets, institutional partnerships, and multi-chain deployment plans to scale real-world credit liquidity.

What Is the SYRUP Token Used for?

The SYRUP token is the native utility and governance token of Maple Finance, designed to support the protocol’s on-chain credit markets. It is used for governance voting, allowing holders to influence proposals, pool parameters, and protocol upgrades. SYRUP can also be staked to secure the network and earn rewards sourced from fees generated across Maple’s lending activity. In addition, the token captures value from Maple’s credit ecosystem through incentives, revenue sharing, and participation in Maple’s structured credit products.

You can trade SYRUP on the BingX Spot Market by logging in to your BingX account, searching for the SYRUP/USDT trading pair, and placing a market or limit order. After your purchase, you can hold SYRUP on BingX or withdraw it to an external wallet if needed.

What Is Maple Finance Tokenomics?

Maple Finance’s tokenomics were upgraded under MIP-010, which introduced the migration from MPL to SYRUP without increasing total token dilution for existing holders. As part of this transition, the protocol will mint approximately 1.15 billion SYRUP, representing a 1:100 conversion ratio for MPL to SYRUP. This process is not an inflationary event; instead, it restructures the supply to align with Maple’s long-term credit expansion strategy and updated governance model. All prior MPL issuance, including treasury recapitalization and scheduled emissions, is now reflected in SYRUP supply.

Under the previously approved recapitalization plan, Maple introduced a one-time issuance of 1,000,000 MPL and a three-year emission schedule of 5% annually. With the 1:100 conversion, this entire issuance schedule is translated into SYRUP tokens. The breakdown of new SYRUP supply minted under this framework is as follows:

- 1,000,000,000 SYRUP — converted from the one-time MPL treasury issuance

- 100,000,000 SYRUP — equivalent to the initial 10% from the inflation schedule

- 54,930,000 SYRUP — emissions accumulated until October 1, 2024

Following the passage of MIP-010, MPL holders can use the official migrator contract to convert their tokens to SYRUP, and all future emissions will be minted solely in SYRUP. Based on the agreed inflation schedule and treasury issuance, the expected total supply of SYRUP is projected to reach 1,267,875,000 tokens by September 2026.

How to Stake SYRUP Tokens on Maple Finance

Staking SYRUP allows you to earn rewards from Maple’s on-chain credit markets while helping secure the protocol. Maple distributes a portion of protocol revenue, fees, and emissions to SYRUP stakers, making it a core part of the ecosystem’s value accrual model. You stake SYRUP directly through the Maple app using a non-custodial wallet such as MetaMask.

Step-by-Step Guide to Staking SYRUP

1. Visit the Maple Finance App: Go to the official Maple platform at app.maple.finance and navigate to the Staking section under the SYRUP dashboard.

2. Connect Your Wallet: Click Connect Wallet and choose a supported Ethereum wallet like MetaMask, Base App, or WalletConnect-enabled wallets. Make sure your wallet holds SYRUP tokens.

3. Select the Amount of SYRUP to Stake: Enter the amount of SYRUP you want to stake. The interface will display your expected rewards based on current staking yields and emissions.

4. Approve SYRUP for Staking: Before staking, you must approve the SYRUP smart contract to interact with your tokens. Confirm the approval transaction in your wallet.

5. Confirm the Staking Transaction: Once approved, click Stake SYRUP. Confirm the transaction in your wallet and wait for the on-chain confirmation.

6. Start Earning Rewards: After the transaction settles, your SYRUP will appear in the Staked Balance section. Rewards accrue automatically and can be claimed from your staking dashboard.

7. Unstake Anytime (Subject to Protocol Rules): You can unstake your SYRUP at any time unless a specific lockup period or cooldown window applies based on future governance updates.

How Does Maple Finance Differ From Other DeFi Lending Protocols?

Maple Finance differs from traditional DeFi lending protocols by focusing on under-collateralized, institutional credit rather than retail over-collateralized loans. Platforms like Aave and Compound rely on automated lending markets where borrowers must lock up more collateral than they borrow. Maple instead partners with vetted institutional borrowers, such as market makers, crypto-native companies, and structured credit funds, using real underwriting, credit assessments, and active risk management. This allows Maple to offer capital-efficient lending that mirrors real-world credit markets while keeping operations fully on-chain.

Another key difference is Maple’s use of professional credit managers who operate lending pools, set terms, and monitor borrower performance. This human-driven, institution-focused model contrasts with automated pool dynamics found in most DeFi lending apps. Maple also provides detailed reporting, audited borrower financials, pool analytics, and structured credit products like syrupUSD, creating a more transparent, regulated, and institution-ready credit ecosystem. By combining traditional credit expertise with decentralized infrastructure, Maple Finance delivers a lending platform that bridges DeFi and institutional finance.

What Blockchain Network Does Maple Finance Operate on?

Maple Finance operates primarily on the Ethereum blockchain, leveraging its smart contract security and broad liquidity to power institutional lending markets. The protocol initially expanded to other networks like Solana but has since consolidated its core infrastructure back onto Ethereum to support its upgraded credit pools, SYRUP token system, and institutional borrowing framework. By running on Ethereum, Maple benefits from a mature DeFi ecosystem, reliable settlement, and seamless integration with leading wallets and on-chain analytics tools.

Which Wallets Support SYRUP Tokens?

You can store your SYRUP tokens directly on BingX, which offers a secure, custodial wallet for holding and managing your assets after trading. This option is ideal if you prefer a simplified experience without dealing with private keys or network configurations. Once you buy SYRUP on the BingX Spot Market, your tokens are automatically stored in your BingX account, where you can track balances, view transaction history, and withdraw to an external wallet whenever needed.

For users who prefer self-custody, SYRUP is supported by most Ethereum-compatible wallets, as it is an ERC-20 token. Popular options include MetaMask, Base App, Ledger hardware wallets, and WalletConnect-enabled apps like Trust Wallet or Rabby. These wallets allow you to hold SYRUP securely, participate in staking and governance, and interact directly with Maple’s on-chain protocol. Simply add the SYRUP token contract address to your wallet to view and manage your holdings.

Is Maple Finance (SYRUP) a Good Investment?

Maple Finance (SYRUP) stands out as a compelling investment because it powers one of the few DeFi platforms built specifically for institutional, undercollateralized lending, a segment with high demand and limited on-chain competition. SYRUP benefits directly from Maple’s growing credit markets, earning value through staking rewards, protocol fees, and governance participation as lending volume increases.

The MPL to SYRUP token upgrade also modernizes tokenomics, strengthens treasury reserves, and aligns incentives with long-term protocol growth. With transparent credit underwriting, real revenue generation, and increasing adoption by market makers and crypto-native firms, Maple positions SYRUP as a token tied to a maturing, revenue-backed DeFi credit ecosystem rather than purely speculative narratives.
