What Is Linear Finance (LINA) and How Does It Work?
Linear Finance (LINA) is a decentralized, cross-chain compatible protocol for creating and trading synthetic assets, often called “Liquids.” It was built to make decentralized finance (DeFi) more accessible by combining high scalability, fast settlement, and low fees.
At its core, users stake LINA tokens (and other supported assets) in the Buildr dApp to mint ℓUSD, a synthetic stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar. With ℓUSD, users can trade synthetic assets on the Linear Exchange, gaining exposure to commodities, indices, crypto, and thematic investment baskets, all without slippage.
The ecosystem includes multiple dApps:
- Buildr – lets users stake LINA and mint ℓUSD.
- Exchange – enables trading of synthetic assets with instant settlement.
- Swap – provides cross-chain compatibility and asset transfers.
- Vault – offers yield farming and staking rewards.
In addition, Linear is governed by LinearDAO, where LINA holders vote on protocol upgrades, collateral ratios, and listing new assets.
When Did Linear Finance Launch?
Linear Finance was founded in 2020 by Kevin Tai, a former VP at Credit Suisse with a background in structured solutions, and Drey Ng, a blockchain expert and ex-product lead at Liquefy. The project was designed as the first cross-chain compatible, delta-one synthetic asset protocol. It officially launched in late 2020 with the release of its Buildr dApp and LINA token, quickly expanding into a broader ecosystem of synthetic asset trading. Despite early growth, the team announced in March 2025 that the project would shut down due to sustainability challenges.
Linear Finance Roadmap Highlights
- Q4 2020: Launch of LINA token and Buildr (staking + ℓUSD minting).
- 2021: Linear Exchange goes live for synthetic asset trading.
- 2022: Cross-chain integrations and LinearDAO governance enhancements.
- 2023: Expansion of synthetic assets (“Liquids”) and yield farming via Linear Vault.
- 2024: Protocol refinements, liquidity upgrades, and ecosystem expansion.
- March 2025: Project termination announced due to revenue sustainability issues.
What Is the LINA Token Utility?
The LINA token is the backbone of the Linear Finance ecosystem. Its main uses include serving as collateral to mint the synthetic stablecoin ℓUSD, powering governance decisions through LinearDAO, and providing staking rewards to incentivize network participation. LINA also plays a role in securing the protocol and enabling users to access and trade synthetic assets (“Liquids”) within the Linear ecosystem.
On BingX Spot Market, you can trade LINA against major pairs like USDT. Simply log in to your BingX account, search for the LINA/USDT pair, and place a market or limit order to buy or sell instantly.
What Is Linear Finance Tokenomics?
Linear Finance has a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion LINA tokens. Around 5–6 billion LINA are currently in circulation as of August 2025. The token distribution was designed to support ecosystem growth, incentivize staking, reward the community, and fund ongoing development.
LINA Token Allocation
- Ecosystem Growth & Incentives: ~40% allocated to staking rewards, liquidity mining, and community adoption.
- Team & Advisors: ~15% vested over time to align long-term commitment.
- Private & Public Sales: ~20% distributed to early investors and exchange listings.
- Reserve & Treasury: ~25% set aside for partnerships, future development, and protocol upgrades.
While LINA was once a central part of the Linear ecosystem, used for staking, governance, and minting ℓUSD, the project officially shut down in March 2025, which has heavily impacted its long-term token utility and market value.
What Blockchain Network Does Linear Finance Operate on?
Linear Finance was originally built on Ethereum as an ERC-20 token but later expanded to be cross-chain compatible, integrating with networks like Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and others to reduce gas fees and improve accessibility. This multi-chain approach allowed users to mint and trade synthetic assets (“Liquids”) seamlessly across ecosystems while still using LINA as the core collateral and governance token.
Which Wallets Support LINA Tokens?
The simplest and most secure way to store your LINA tokens is directly on BingX. By keeping LINA in your BingX account wallet, you can easily trade it on the spot market, access BingX features like Convert, and track your portfolio in real time. BingX also implements advanced security measures, including cold storage and multi-layer protection, making it a convenient option for both active traders and long-term holders.
Beyond BingX, LINA is an ERC-20 token and can be stored on any Ethereum-compatible wallet. Popular options include MetaMask, Trust Wallet, and Ledger hardware wallets, which allow you to hold and manage LINA securely while maintaining full custody of your assets. For those engaging with Binance Smart Chain (BSC) or cross-chain activities, wallets that support multi-chain assets such as TokenPocket or MathWallet also provide compatibility. Always ensure you back up your private keys and enable security features like two-factor authentication for maximum protection.
Is Linear Finance (LINA) a Good Investment?
Linear Finance (LINA) was once seen as a promising investment because it offered fast, low-cost access to synthetic assets across multiple blockchains, with staking rewards and governance through LinearDAO. Its cross-chain design and ability to mint ℓUSD gave users exposure to diverse asset classes without slippage, making it attractive during its active years. However, since the project officially shut down in March 2025, investors should approach LINA with caution, recognizing that current prices reflect speculative trading rather than long-term utility.
Risk Disclaimer: Linear Finance has ceased operations, and the LINA token no longer carries active ecosystem utility. Prices are highly volatile and driven mainly by speculation. Always do your own research (DYOR) and only invest what you can afford to lose.
