Hyperlane (HYPER) is a permissionless interoperability protocol that enables cross-chain message passing and asset transfers across more than 150 blockchains and 5 virtual machines, all without centralized intermediaries.
Using components like the Mailbox smart contract, Warp Routes for efficient token bridging, and configurable Interchain Security Modules (ISMs), Hyperlane lets developers securely build interchain applications, while its native HYPER token powers staking, validator incentives, and governance within the network.
How Does Hyperlane Work and Enable Cross-Chain Communication?
Hyperlane powerfully abstracts cross-chain messaging into two core layers—on-chain Mailboxes and off-chain relayers—underpinned by configurable security and gas-payment modules:
1. On-Chain Messaging via Mailboxes
Every supported chain runs a Hyperlane Mailbox smart contract. When you call dispatch(destinationDomain, recipient, messageBody)
, the Mailbox appends your message to an incremental Merkle tree and emits a unique messageId
. Off-chain relayers listen for these dispatch events, package the message with Merkle‐proof metadata, and call process()
on the destination chain’s Mailbox.
There, the Mailbox hands off the proof and payload to its Interchain Security Module (ISM) for validation—only if the ISM confirms the message’s authenticity does Hyperlane invoke the recipient’s handle()
function to deliver the cross-chain payload.
2. Modular Security, Gas Payments & Warp Routes
Security in Hyperlane is fully modular: you can use pre-built Multisig or Aggregation ISMs, mix and match “security legos,” or write your own—tuning the trade-off between safety, speed, and cost. Relayers are compensated via on‐chain Interchain Gas Paymaster contracts, where message senders prepay destination‐chain gas fees in native tokens.
For token transfers, Hyperlane’s Warp Routes layer bundles messaging, ISM checks, and gas payments into an easy‐to-deploy bridge, enabling no-slippage, affordable transfers across EVM, SVM, CosmWasm, and other VMs
When Was Hyperlane Launched?
Hyperlane was founded by Asa Oines, Nam Chu Hoai, and Jon Kol—three engineers and operators who previously built core infrastructure at Celo and Galaxy, alongside founding engineers Trevor Porter and Yorke Rhodes, with advisory support from Morgan Beller and Zaki Manian. How to Claim Hyperlane Airdrop
To claim your Hyperlane (HYPER) airdrop, follow these steps:
1. Visit the official claim portal: Go to https://claim.hyperlane.foundation once the claim window opens.

How Is Hyperlane Secured Against Cross-Chain Attacks?
Hyperlane secures cross-chain messages through a robust proof-and-relay framework. Every Mailbox contract on each supported chain records dispatched messages in a Merkle tree and emits a unique proof of inclusion. Off-chain relayers package this Merkle proof with relevant metadata and call the destination Mailbox’s process()
function. There, the system hands the proof off to the Interchain Security Module (ISM) for cryptographic validation, ensuring only authentic, non-replayable messages are delivered.
On top of these cryptographic checks, Hyperlane’s modular ISM architecture lets developers choose or compose security policies that balance trust, speed, and cost. Available ISMs include Multisig attestations, Aggregation combinations, Routing delegations, and Optimistic fraud-proofs, with plans for staking, slashing, and light-client modules to layer economic guarantees over proofs.
